Black Friday – We Went Shopping

In annual Black Friday ‘Midnight Madness’ shopping tradition, we went shopping right after Thanksgiving dinner. Stores opened at 9:00pm at the Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets in Kenosha, WI and Jack, Matt and I found some great deals!

Here’s a recap:

First Stop: J.Crew

Jack brought some shirts. Ironically, the polka dot chambray looks super similar to this number – one of my favorite shirts! #ThatAwkwardMomentWhenYouAreWearingTheSameShirtAsYourBrother.

JCrew-Black-Friday-Sales Matt also found some shirts and girlfriend approved!

And I found, well, several things.
Clearly, I was attracted to Peter Pan collar tops.

JCrew-Leather-Jodphur-Pixie-Pants
And these Pixie Pant Jodhpurs.

JCrew-Review-Womens-Sweaters
And sweaters…Because you can never have too many sweaters!
I got the V-neck in navy blue at last years’ sale and wear it all the time. Opted for a bright blue this time around a merino Tippi ‘Charley’ sweater in kelly green.

  JCrew-Shift-Dress-in-floral
And lastly, the Factory Pleated Shift Dress in Floral.
This piece, true to my ‘Quality Control‘ review earlier this week, is definitely lower quality than the original. But, it’s such a fun print and was only $30, I decided to go for it! (As a reference, it’s currently $54.00 online, so the sales in store and online are not exactly the same. Neither is the selection – much more to choose from in-store).

But, of course, you can’t beat shopping J.Crew Factory from the convenience of your own home. And — lucky for all of us — J.Crew Factory Online Sale = 50% Off Everything!

We zipped in and out of J.Crew the came Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, Fossil, Target…

Between the three of us we found some great gift items (for ourselves…and others…)

Mens-Fossil-Watch-Sale Matt found some nice Fossil watches. Shop the selection.

Brooks-Brothers-Flannel-Button-Down-Shirt-Sale We brought my dad some good ‘ol Brooks Brothers flannel button downs.

Black-Friday-Target-Sale-Leather-Jacket

Confession: I’ve been wanting a Target ‘pleather‘ jacket for a while now. I actually want a fancy genuine leather jacket, but of course the practical #HelpMeImPoor version is this $20 Target number (typically $40, so get it while it’s on sale)! Since it’s trendy a not an everyday jacket, I don’t mind going faux. Shop similar.

Another Black Friday, another successful shopping trip! What did you find? Let us know in the comments below!

It’s Tartan Time

Throughout the years J.Crew has debuted hundreds of plaid pieces – in a variety of colors, textures and patterns. This catalog cover from August 2007 was part of JCrew’s preppier set, but it’s great to see the retailer is still featuring quite a bit of ‘borrowed from the boys with a feminine fit’ styles.

I know WAY too much about tartan (plaid) from having worked at a school uniform store during my summers before college. Many private school uniforms require plaid jumpers or skirts (multi-pleat or box pleat). Having worn the same red, white & navy blue plaid pattern from kindergarten through 8th grade, you’d think I’d think I’d want to steer clear of criss-cross stripe patterns for life.

Maybe it’s because I live in Minnesota now and just about every MN man’s closet is dominated by flannel (some of which are actually, quite stylish). Or maybe it’s the holidays that bring on the ‘Mad about Plaid’ vibes, but whatever the case, we can rejoice because retailers have a great selection of tartan shirts, scarves, and throws again this year!

Traditional tartan patterns each have a name and a purpose (in Scotland they were to represent your clan and/or your occupation). Learn all about the History of Tartan on good ol’ Wikipedia.

I plan on wearing this J.Crew plaid ‘kilt’ (from Holiday ’12) again this year:

…but maybe with tights now that it’s ten degrees in MN.

XO,

Marty
