Week in Review // February 2017

Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart, Galentine’s Day with your girlfriends, or just trying to avoid the hype altogether, we’ve outlined some “sweet” ideas for treating yourself and others.

Treat-Yourself-Gift-Ideas-Nordstrom

Spending money on lavish dinners and giant bouquets of roses isn’t always money well spent. Instead, choose a little something that will make you happy for months to come (well, except those gummy bears, we all know those will be gone in a flash!).

If we had a little cash (or a Nordstrom Note to burn) we’d consider one of these pretties:
CHANEL Rouge Coco / Diptyque Scented CandleJo Malone Peony & Blush Suede Cologne‘Naked2′ Palette / ‘Naked Smoky’ PaletteSugarfina Rose All Day Rose Infused Gummy Bears

Or pretty much anything Sugarfina, for that matter! I mean seriously, how cute are these?
Sugarfina-Gummy-Lips-Roses

They’re almost too pretty to eat. Almost.
[If you're in MN, be sure to swing by the new (permanent!) Sugarfina shop at the Mall of America near the Radisson Blu.]

And then there’s our perennial favorite, Glossier!
Glossier-Favorites

Try Glossier Haloscope,  Soothing Face Mist, Generation G, Priming Moisturizer Rich or Super Pure.

Essie-Nailpolish

Could pink nails be any more fitting for Feb? Didn’t think so! Essie has nearly every shade under the sun (and we love most all of them!).

Similarly, you may be seeking a pop of pink or rich red lip color. Here’s a sampling of our faves from The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain [Left x 3] and Clinique Chubby Sticks [right x 2].
Lipstick-Wrist-Swatch Valentines-Day-Lip-Color

Have you seen the new Clinique Chubby Crayola  Lip Crayon Box Set? Never imagined this partnership, but we don’t hate it!

If you’re looking for something nude or dark + dramatic instead, check out these new beauties from Bite Beauty @ Sephora.

*We shared more details on these products on Instagram. They were sent to us complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster.

And a few more wildcard picks for good measure…

Week in Review: Fall is in Full Swing

Fall is in full swing, and that means miniature pumpkins and decorative Indian corn will magically make their way into your shopping cart. You’ll suddenly have an irresistible urge to visit an apple orchard and a pumpkin farm. Perhaps a vineyard, too - while you’re at it! A strange sensation pulls you in the direction of all things plaid and flannel and it becomes abundantly clear that you do not have enough cozy socks and blankets (and never will).

That said, cider season is officially upon us! If you’re like me, you skip the PSL and go straight for the good stuff.

If we were ‘real’ lifestyle bloggers, we’d whip up our own clever cider concoction and share just how rewarding it is to make your own from scratch. I must say, this Trader Joe’s version isn’t half bad! Apple-Cider-Season Disclaimer: These apples aren’t freshly picked from the orchard. They’re Trader Joe’s, too.

Fall-Foliage-OnlyInMN And with the crisp autumnal breezes comes a myriad of gorgeous natural colors. A unique mix of reds, greens, yellows, oranges and maroons. A striking blend of colors that are just too Instagrammable to resist. It’s peak fall foliage season in Minnesota right now (meaning, we have ALL of the colors), and I have plenty of ‘grams to prove it!

Including this one, featuring my recent encounter with a real-life emoji! Real-Life-Leaf-Emoji

Wayzata-Yacht-Club And this snap, that’s really just a tease because that body of water is about to FREEZE soon.

Fall-Foliage-MN-2 And this tunnel of trees at a scenic outdoor wedding venue. Ok, I lied. This is actually outside of the public library. Looks like a lavishly decorated aisle though, doesn’t it?

Taylors-Falls-MN-Fall This recent hike was an eyeopener, featuring trees with only a few fall leaves left : (

Wood-Watch-1 When it comes to fall clothing and accessories, I gotta admit, I don’t overdose on plaid and flannel and oversized capes. They’re not for everyone. I do love a cozy cable knit sweater, a fleece-lined quarter-zip (like this Heathered Green Patagonia “Better Sweater” that’s become a weekend staple), and leather riding boots (like these Frye faves I’ve been wearing on the daily).

JORD-Watch Accessory-wise, stylish wood watches are seasonally appropriate and make quite the fashion statement. This Zebrawood and Dark Sandalwood combination caught my attention, and the best news is, the husband likes it, too! Check out woodwatches.com to explore the full collection of men’s and women’s watches. (Shown: Dover Series Zebrawood & Dark Sandalwood. c/o).

Wood-Watch-2 Doesn’t it make you wanna go all analog and take a hike? Reaching for your iPhone is not required to tell time. It was, however, required for this photo, HA!

Until next time!

Week in Review: Travels to Chicago, San Fransisco and the Ryder Cup!

It’s been an action-packed couple of weeks! From San Fransisco to Chicago to Milwaukee and back to Minneapolis for the Ryder Cup! Here are some highlights from our adventures:

Flowers-at-Mission-Dolores-Market-San-Fransisco “I see them bloom for me and you. And I think to myself, What a wonderful world.” I couldn’t help but smile (and let’s be honest, walk in and what else they had to offer) as I walked past this darling market in Mission Dolores, San Fransisco.

View-from-Golden-Gate-Bridge-San-Fransisco The next night I headed to the Golden Gate Bridge just before sunset, and the views were phenomenal! While it was a chilly walk, it was a clear night (no fog!) and I snapped an embarrassing number of photos.

3-Arts-Cafe-at-RH-Chicago-Gold-Coast
Next stop: Chicago. When I arrived my friends had already eaten lunch, so I took matters into my own hands. Made a beeline for the 3 Arts Club Cafe aka “a posh haunt inside Restoration Hardware combining a coffeehouse, wine bar & American restaurant.” Let me tell you, it lives up to the hype! The next time you’re in Chicago, I’d highly recommend swinging by. And plan extra time for exploring each floor of RH Chicago – design inspo for DAYS.

After a quick stop in Milwaukee for my grandma’s 90th birthday party (!!!) I made my way back to Minnesota and was pleasantly surprised to find the weather was still summery. Sundays-Lake-Minnetonka

Which turned out to be PERFECT for the Ryder Cup.  Ryder-Cup-2016-MN
We had a blast wearing full on red, white & blue and cheering on Team USA. We also got to catch up with friends from out-of-town all while spending ample time outdoors.

What have you been up to this fall?

Week in Review: Summertime Gladness

Hard to believe we’re over halfway through August! Here’s what we’ve been up to lately…

Minnesota-Summer-Lake-Minnetonka-Jack-Rogers
Summer may be fleeting, but there’s no better time than the present to purchase a new pair of sandals (that’s what I told myself, at least). This time, I went with the Jack Rogers Capri Sandal in Platinum. Super comfortable + great for narrow feet! Rumor has it, there’s an “End of the Season” sale on now at jackrogers.com with savings up to 60% off!

Minnesota-Summer-Lake-Minnetonka-Anchor-Tote-Seabag
In addition to my go-to summer sandals, I’ve been getting a ton of use out of my @seabagsmaine tote this season. Many of you asked [something along the lines of...]
Q: Would you recommend this oversized, excessively nautical tote bag?
A: Oh for shore! (Aren’t you relieved I didn’t say tote-ally?)

In all seriousness, I do really like it. The bag fits multiple beach towels, beverages, sunscreen – you name it! Also pretty cool that it’s made of recycled sails. ♻️ I went with the Large Navy Zip Top Anchor Tote + Hanging Pocket (I’d recommend both the zipper + pocket upgrades!).

Minnesota-Summer-Lake-Minnetonka-Sailboat So, I’m still saving up for that boat, but until then I’ll continue to snap photos like this and live vicariously though them. Follow along on Instagram @TheJCRGirls for more where this came from!

Patio-Outdoor-Seating-Giannis-Wayzata

The title of this post isn’t entirely accurate. While I’m trying my best to embrace “Summertime Gladness,” the end-of-summer blues is really starting to hit home. To combat this, I’ve been spending tons of time outside – running, biking, festival-going and dining al fresco (that is, in addition to yard work, but I doubt you want to hear about that…).

Anchor-Necklace-LK-Meyer-Gold

You know we can’t resist a good nautical motif, so this new necklace from LK Meyer (handcrafted in Rhode Island) and “Sail Away” notebook needed to join the collection of nautical necessities.

Back-to-School-Desk-Accessories We stretched the “back-to-school” theme even further and decided it was a great opportunity to refresh both desk and bar cart accessories.
