‘Tis the Season for Textures – Our Favorite Tweeds, Plaids, & Stripes.

If you know one thing about our fashion sensibilities, it’s probably that’s we’re drawn to the classics. For fall + winter, that means tweeds and plaids, cotton and wool. And then there’s our perennial favorite – stripes. Whether layered under sweaters and vests or incorporated as thicker sweaters or coats, stripes are always on standby.

Tweeds
These cold temps aren’t going away anytime soon. Tweeds provide the weight and warmth you need to combat to frigid temps in style.

These chic dresses and jackets are perfectly suited for wearing to work. Then, just add some bling and you’re on your way to holiday parties!

I’ve been finding so many ways to style the Lady Jacket in Metallic Tweed. For one, the bracelet sleeves make it easy to show off a pop of color. And the mannequin at J.Crew SoHo posed a style challenge – wear the lady jacket like a cape. Challenge, accepted.

For this iteration, I’d like to thank Jenna Lyons, Jackie O and Anne Hathaway’s wardrobe stylist for the inspiration. These Over-the-Knee Boots only look high-end, on major sale ($64.50) – snatch up a pair while you still can!

Plaids
Must be the holiday season, because plaids are present throughout the home. These Pottery Barn throws come in the prettiest color combinations, and these oversized Target pillows add a splash of Christmas cheer to our brown leather sectional.

Moving on to festive attire, J.Crew does it again! We’ll take one of each of the following, please:

Stripes
Winter, spring, summer or fall – stripes are 100% appropriate for every season. For the dead of winter (hate to break it to you, it’s upon us), opt for cozy knits and use your cotton Bretons as layering pieces under sweaters, scarves and vests.

When it comes to stripes, Saint James is the gold standard. J.Crew has been collaborating with Saint James for years, and we adore the collections season after season. This season, it’s the Saint James for J.Crew Slouchy T-Shirt that is really catching our eye. Also comes in a short sleeve slouchy version, in 4 fun colors!

While a serious investment, here’s what you can feel extra good about when growing your Saint James collection: Careful attention is given to every step of the manufacturing process. For example, after each part of the shirt is cut, the pieces are then applied to a needled table, which allows for each stripe to be perfectly aligned from front of the shirt to back. Talk about a lot of love and personal attention! Read more on the Saint James website.

Saint James sells their tried-and-true pieces, such as nautical shirts and knits on their website, saintjamesboutique.com. Here’s a sampling of our faves:

Week in Review: Labor Day Week+End

If you’ve been following us on Instagram, you’ve probably been picking up on a pink theme…

jcrew-challenge-pink We’re excited to announce that we are participating in another J.Crew Challenge, this time – PINK. How refreshing for fall, right? You don’t need to go full-on autumnal to get into the season. 226 shades of pink provide plenty of opportunity to personalize your look.

We were thrilled when J.Crew asked us to participate in the “Into the Wild” #jcrewchallenge, and the same it true this time around.

While we’re excited for sweater weather and crisp autumn air, we are experiencing a bout of the summer blues. On the bright side, these blue pieces are perfect for transitioning from summer to fall: Rider Bag in Italian Leather // Sam Sunglasses in Navy // Colorful Crystal Necklace // Deck-Stripe T-Shirt // Vintage Pajama Set // Ruffle Dress in Tropical Floral // Roxie Suede T-Strap Pumps.

Weekend Recap
Labor Day weekend was spent enjoying the sunshine (responsibly – see below), planning upcoming trips and making some minor home improvements. Lake-Minnetonka-MN

Sunshine: Enjoy Responsibly. To continue the skincare theme, we tried Supergoop for the first time this week. An alarming 90% of the signs of aging are caused by the sun. It’s important to protect yourself year-round with SPF Skincare. We are enjoying the Supergoop Defense Refresh Setting Mist, and will be purchasing more products in the near future, because…

Supergoop is NOW 20% OFF thru 9/8 with code: sg!365

Cabo-San-Lucas-El-Arco Sun protection will be incredibly important during our upcoming trip to Cabo San Lucas! I’ve been once before and can attest to the fact that the sun is strong and hard to hide from. Christmas in Cabo is still ages away, so I’ll spare you the details (for now!).

Grace-Hill-Design-Artisan-Home-Minnesota

Spent an embarrassing amount of time cleaning and organizing and decorating this weekend. We’ve been up and down every aisle of Home Depot, Menards and Lowe’s, and the place still doesn’t look remotely like this! This photo is filed under “Bedroom Inspo,” snapped at the Artisan Home Tour, designed by @gracehilldesign. I guess we’ll keep trying… If we make any solid progress, I’ll post updates on the blog!

Labor Day Sale Roundup:

P.S. Did you hear the news? J.Crew coming to 16 select Nordstrom stores across the country! Match made in heaven.

So Long, Summer. Hello, Fall.

The changing of seasons is always a bittersweet experience. You could say we‘ve got a case of that Summertime Sadness (and we likely have Lana Del Rey playing on Pandora). While we don’t subscribe to the belief that you need to pack the white away after Labor Day, we will be introducing some new fall colors into our wardrobes and retiring some of the spring/summer brights.

We’re big fans of the Magenta Uber Clutch (right) as it transitions nicely between seasons!

It’s not fall unless you’ve fallen in love with a new leather handbag, right? We’re partial to these satchel-style bags by GiGi New York. Jocelyn carries the Hayden Satchel, while Martha sports a Stone Pebble Grain Handbag.

GiGi-New-York-2014-Handbags The Hayden Satchel comes with a detachable cross-body strap – perfect for, you know, your hands free Vespa adventures around the city!

Now we’re feeling fall – New York Fashion Week, we’re ready for ya!

Editor’s Note: Marty is missing out on NYFW and is currently afflicted with a serious case of FOMO.

If you’re not ready (or, let’s be honest, your bank account isn’t ready) for a new fall handbag, try one of these darling accessories instead:

Dallas, We Love Ya!

A continuation of: Weekend Recap: Our Trip to Dallas

The night we arrived in Dallas we swung back to Hotel Zaza {where we stayed this time last year} to sit on their black + white striped pool furniture and enjoy salads. Ok, cucumber martinis. Same thing. Hotel-Zaza-Pool-Dallas

On Friday morning we were off to The Joule, a boutique hotel in downtown Dallas boasting “a tasteful union of old world quality and contemporary design.”  TheJoule-Dallas

After 2 full days of meetings and seminars, we got dolled up to celebrate The Outnet‘s 5th Birthday with RewardStyle on Saturday night.

It was so great to hang out with Desiree of Chic Coastal Living again! We meet her last year at the same conference. She looked stunning in a J.Crew Silk Cami + Curator Pant.

Southfork-Ranch-Dallas On Sunday we were treated to a True Texas Experience – brunch at Southfork Ranch!

Yes, it was delicious.

Then we took our mimosas outside to enjoy the sun.

We also made some new friends
