When I think back on my childhood closet, it’s a little blurry and not too glamorous: I had a lot of tie-dye, right? What about that shirt that changed colors in the sun? I vaguely remember a lot of tulle… well, it was the ‘90s.
Needless to say, kids have been a lot luckier ever since crewcuts, J.Crew’s children’s line, was launched. Forget looking chic on play dates, it’s much easier to convince the ‘rents that you deserve a higher allowance when you dress the part, and crewcut’s new arrivals are full of miniature mini-dresses, shrunken seersucker, and pint-sized plaid to do the job. Even celebrity kids endorse the brand (Suri Cruise, anyone?).
So… girls who can fit into kid’s sizes 2-16? I envy you.
And for the young men, well, let’s just say that if the boys chasing me on the playground “because they liked me” were decked out like this, maybe I wouldn’t have hidden behind the jungle gym.
J.Crew may have to start making these things for the adults, too, before I start wanting a kid of my own. (Just kidding, Dad!)
